CATHOLIC ENGAGED ENCOUNTER
“A Wedding is a day…a Marriage is a lifetime.”

Engaged Encounter is a weekend for couples planning marriage who desire an in-depth opportunity to deepen and enrich their lives together.  The weekend allows engaged couples to take a break from the hectic pace of wedding plans and focus on themselves, their relationship and the building blocks needed for a successful marriage.  The atmosphere of the weekend lets couples further explore their values, goals, attitudes and beliefs about love, communication, decision-making, commitment, time, sex, faith, etc.  The weekend fulfills diocesan requirements for marriage preparation.

What happens on the weekend?

Two married couples and a priest give a series of short presentations in which they share personally from their experiences on many areas of marriage and family life.  After the presentations, each engaged couple is given time to reflect in writing on the talk and then share their thoughts privately with each other.  There are a few group activities, a prayer service and Mass, but the focus is always on personal reflection and couple dialogue.

What is the schedule of the weekend?

The weekend begins at 8:00 p.m. on Friday and ends early Sunday afternoon.  Weekends, which include meals and separate overnight accommodations, are held several times a year in the Archdiocese of Hartford and are usually held at St. Thomas Archdiocesan Center in Bloomfield.  Weekends are also offered in other dioceses in Connecticut and New England.

Why should we go on an Engaged Encounter?

Simple...to help make a couple’s marriage the best that it can be!  For almost 30 years, Engaged Encounter has proven to be a powerful and positive influence on thousands of couples who strive to live out their vows of sacramental marriage.  The weekend provides a setting for a couple to affirm their love and develop tools to make a conscious decision to love one another each day of their lives   The gift of time together at an Engaged Encounter is truly priceless.
