New Life - a Program for the Separated and Divorced
If you are recently divorced or separated you may need to give yourself some time to work through your loss and pain. “New Life” is a program in which you can deal with the initial grieving stage of your divorce or separation.
“New Life” is a ten-week program designed for persons in the early stages of separation or divorce. In this program, we offer a “safe place” for people to gain a perspective on their loss. It is designed to help people cope with the stresses and strains associated with separation and divorce. It helps people understand some of their emotional responses and find ways of coping the will lead to growth and the eventual restructuring of their lives.
“New Life” is not a counseling session. It is based on the premise that sharing ones thoughts, feelings, and experiences with other people in similar situations is one of the most helpful ways to move beyond the pain of a separation or divorce. In light of this, what is said in these sessions is strictly confidential.
Some of the topics that will be addressed in this program are:
- Self Image
- Stress
- Anger
- Blame and Guilt
- Loneliness
- How to Move Toward Growth
Time:
The program consists of one meeting each week from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM for ten weeks, plus exercises to be practiced between the sessions. The guide that will be used is “Divorce and Beyond” by James Greteman, C.S.C. and Leon Haberkamp, M.S.W.
Facilitators:
Trained facilitators will conduct the seminar. They are not counselors; rather they are people who have experienced separation or divorce in their lives, and are able to walk with the participants on their grief journey.
Cost:
The suggested donation for the entire nine weeks is $10.00 to cover the cost of materials. A small donation toward refreshments may be requested.
Registration:
It is necessary that you register in advance to ensure that you enter a group at the appropriate point in the series and to ensure that materials are available. To register, contact the group facilitator.
